Ledingham Chalmers sponsors medical officials at Balcormo Races

Ledingham Chalmers is sponsoring the medical support for horses and riders at the Balcormo Races in Fife this weekend: the UK’s most northerly point-to-point meeting.

And with One For Arthur and jockey Derek Fox set to attend Saturday’s event, visitors can catch a glimpse of the Grand National winners while enjoying a day of amateur horseracing.

Jim Drysdale, clerk of the course and partner at Ledingham Chalmers, said: "With so many people associated with racing in both our rural and private practices, we thought it fitting to work in partnership with such a consistently popular event to provide this crucial support.

“On the day, we will have a full team available, comprising two vets and three doctors, four ambulances and three paramedics, plus lots of first aiders. Each and every one of them will be looking out for the safety and welfare of horses and riders.”

With a total fund of £3,200, the meeting offers some of the biggest point-to-point prizes in Scotland.

It comprises six steeplechase races and three pony races, including mens and womens opens, and has again attracted a considerable number of entries, including 76 for the steeplechases: the highest in recent years.

Pony races start at 1pm, and the first steeplechase is at 2pm. Gates open at 11am.

A country fair is also being held on the day. Catering includes a hot drinks stand; beer tent; the first outing of the St Andrews Brewing Company pop-up Land Rover bar; a hog roast; and burger van.

Entertainment includes a funfair for children, as well as the Highland Rodeo Bulls.

Spectators pay £10 at the gate, children go free.
