Another Vuelta de Isla Negra in the bag for Ledingham Chalmers

Around 25 riders from across the north and north east business community came together last week to raise funds towards the £300,000 development of world-class sports facilities in Avoch.

Full-service law firm Ledingham Chalmers, which has offices in Inverness, Aberdeen, Stirling and Edinburgh, held its second Spanish-themed Vuelta de Isla Negra — translated as ‘cycle round the Black Isle’ — on Friday, 7 September.

Weather stayed fair during the 50-mile event, which was held to raise funds to transform Avoch Amenities Association’s old bowling green into tennis and all-weather multi-sports courts with changing facilities.

Inverness-based Ledingham Chalmers senior associate Roddy Cormack came up with the idea for the event in 2017.

And this year, four of his colleagues took part: partner John Smart and personal assistant Adele MacIver from the Inverness office, along with partner David Scott and senior associate Veli-Matti Raikkonenfrom Aberdeen.

Mr Cormack said: “This was another great event — giving people the chance to get out on their bikes; catch up with colleagues and contacts while taking in some of our stunning scenery; and raise some cash to help transform sports facilities for the local community.

“I would like to thank William Gray Construction for the valuable assistance the team provided in setting out — and taking down again — all the direction signs for the route. Thanks also to Fortrose Cafe for putting on an amazing Spanish-themed feast for the riders when they had finished.”

Around £1,000 was raised at last year’s event. And, recently, AAA announced it had been successful in securing funding from the Suez Communities Trustand Highland Council’s LEADER fund towards the first phase of the refurbishment.
