Summer 2020 internship/2021 traineeship

We’re a legal firm and as you’d expect, we know the law inside, out.

But, the people who work with us are more than brilliant lawyers and talented support staff.

Through Ledingham Chalmers, our colleagues are award-winning singers, yogis, firewalkers and charity supporters.

And outside of work, our interests are no less diverse.

For example, our reception services manager is qualified in drystone dyke building, and our chairman’s a Law Society of Scotland-accredited construction lawyer, as well as an unapologetic Star Wars fan.

We’re proud of the culture we’ve built that attracts such fantastic people, and if that piques your interest, we’re now on the hunt for eight summer interns who bring a special something to our firm.

The roles

This paid internship programme gives candidates a taste of what it’s like to work with us and put all the knowledge and skills they’ve learned at university to great use in a supportive and fast-paced working environment.

These two-week, paid internships based in Aberdeen begin either week commencing 15 or 29 June, 2020 and the interns will join one of our teams (private client/rural, commercial property, litigation and corporate). They will be allocated a trainee mentor and will work closely with partners and other colleagues.

The internships are also an important part of our trainee recruitment process.

Up to four of the interns will be selected for traineeships starting August 2021. Trainees spend six months in at least three different teams, again working alongside our experts with plenty of opportunity for client contact. Plus, while based in the granite city, there may be opportunities to visit other offices across the country.

The applicants

Successful applicants will have an LLB or LLB (Hons) in Scots Law and PEAT1/DipLP before the traineeship start date next year.

You’ll be driven to grow your legal knowledge as much as you can — applying what you learned in the lecture hall to an office setting.

And you’ll also be the kind of person who tackles things head on and gets stuck in. Plus, we’re looking for people who are a great fit and work well with our colleagues, clients and other professionals. You’ll also understand the importance technology, including social media, plays in the modern business environment.

Outside of the office, there will be plenty of opportunities to take part in networking and other social events. Who knows, maybe you’ll join our Law Law Land choir, perfect your Utkatasana at our lunchtime yoga sessions, or even join our charitable trust and help make a difference in our communities.

The firm

With offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Stirling, our full-service firm advises individuals as well as family-run businesses, SMEs, large multinationals and institutions active in sectors that drive the local economy, including energy, construction, agriculture, food and drink and hospitality.

We’re consistently recognised in the Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 directories based on feedback from clients and peers and were listed too in The Times Best Law Firms 2020 guide for our commercial property, corporate and commercial work.

On top of that, we’re committed to giving something back to the communities where we operate: colleagues are actively involved in third sector boards, governing bodies and charitable trusts, and we raise and donate thousands of pounds to chosen charities each year.
