Traineeship — October 2021

We're a full-service legal firm so, as you'd expect, we know the law inside and out.

However, our colleagues are more than brilliant lawyers and talented support staff.

Among our number we have award-winning singers, trampoline instructors, comedy legends, yogis, fire walkers and dedicated charity supporters.

Our interests outside of work are diverse too.

Our reception services manager is qualified in drystone dyke building, while our managing partner's a Law Society of Scotland-accredited construction lawyer as well as an unapologetic Star Wars fan.

We're proud of our culture — and our fantastic people. And if that piques your interest, we're looking for four trainee solicitors, based in Aberdeen, who'll all bring a special something to our firm.

How does the process work?

The recruitment process starts with you submitting a CV, cover letter and a short blog post. If you're invited to take part in a virtual interview, you'll be asked to prepare a short presentation.

The successful trainees will spend six months in at least three different teams, working alongside our experts with plenty of client contact as well as the opportunity to visit our other offices across the country, in line with COVID-19 rules of course.

What we're looking for

Successful applicants will have an LLB or LLB (Hons) in Scots Law and PEAT1/DipLP before the 4 October, 2021 traineeship start date.

You'll be keen to know as much as you can about the law — applying what you've learnt in the lecture hall to an office (or remote working) setting.

What's more, you'll be the kind of person who tackles things head on and gets stuck in — you'll also be a great fit with our colleagues, clients and contacts. You'll understand the importance of technology, including social media, in the modern business environment.

Our firm

With offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Stirling, our full-service firm advises individuals as well as family-run businesses, SMEs, large multinationals and institutions active in sectors that drive the local economy, including energy, construction, agriculture, food and drink, and hospitality.

We're consistently recognised in the Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 directories based on feedback from clients and peers.

On top of that, we're committed to giving something back to the communities where we're based. Our colleagues are actively involved in third sector boards, governing bodies and charitable trusts, and we raise and donate thousands of pounds to chosen charities each year.

For example, throughout December, we raised £3,180 for three care homes and one hospice, all with links to our firm.

To apply, please send a blog post, maximum 450 words, titled “The coronavirus pandemic — what now for the legal sector, our firm and our clients?’ together with a CV and cover letter that'll show why you'd be a great fit for our team to traineeship@ledinghamchalmers.com by Friday, 5 March, 2021.
