My career with Ledingham Chalmers — solicitor Natalie Coll

Solicitor Natalie Coll’s time with the firm so far could hardly be called dull.

Aside from the legal aspects of her day-to-day role, as a Ledingham Chalmers colleague she’s walked over hot coals for charity and escaped from a submerged helicopter simulator, as well as taken part in our weekly yoga practice and been part of our crafting group.

After starting out with us in Aberdeen, she’s now based in our Inverness office in the private client team, and we caught up with her to talk about her experience.

And if our firm sounds like your cup of tea, we’re recruiting eight interns, up to four of whom will be selected for a 2021 traineeship.

What appealed to you about a traineeship with Ledingham Chalmers?

I’d completed a three-week internship in 2015, and was a trainee from 2017 to 2019.

Part of what attracted me to Ledingham Chalmers was the people who I knew who do, or had, worked with the firm and had done great things. Plus, right from the start I really enjoyed the internship and it gave me a great sense of the working environment.

What did you enjoy best about the traineeship?

I liked the idea trainees got to do the different seats, especially as I wasn’t quite sure what discipline I wanted to focus on, so I had experience in the residential property, private client, commercial property and litigation teams. I split my time in my last seat between Inverness and Aberdeen, which was a huge advantage as I’d moved to the Highlands.

Importantly too, I was actively encouraged to have and make client contact, which was great.

What’s the culture like?

It’s a very friendly and hard-working culture, and that’s across all the departments.

Aside from that, there’s so much else on the go on the social side of things, it’s not always work, work, work. There are all the other activities from yoga, the choir and the charities committee, and I went to the craft club a couple of times too.
