Ledingham Chalmers sponsors Year of Young People marquee at the Turriff Show

To celebrate the 2018 Year of Young People, Turriff Show’s organising committee is giving eight young business owners, aged 16-25 years, exhibition stands in a dedicated marquee sponsored by law firm Ledingham Chalmers with support from Elevator, the Aberdeen-based business accelerator programme.

“We want to support enterprising young people,” explains Turriff Show President, John Sleigh. “As a regional show at the heart of the local community, giving these youngsters a helping hand to publicise what they do is our way of encouraging them.”

The businesses exhibiting at the event, which kicks off on 5 August, are: Alice Lane who runs From Bakery Lane in Inverurie; Kirsty Bruce, an artist from Turriff; AJ IT Services, Cameron Esson who runs Boozy Events; Lois Wiseman, a jeweller; Rebecca Carr a hair salon owner from Kintore and two singers, Shannon Feely and Lois Paterson. Elevator will also be in attendance with several of their young entrepreneurs showcasing their new businesses and talents.

Lois Wiseman is a 22-year old jewellery designer and maker who comes from a farming family near Banff. The inspiration for her work comes from Aberdeenshire, she describes it as “coastal inspiration and a colour celebration of her home and heritage.”

Of particular interest to her are the colours and views of Crovie, Banff, MacDuff, Portsoy and Whitehills.

She said: “I’ve gone to the Turriff Show every year since I was young and I’m so happy to have been given the free stand in the Year of a young People marquee,” she said. “It’s lovely to be taking my collections of jewellery back to the area that gave me my inspiration.”

Alice Lane runs a bakery, From Bakery Lane, in Inverurie. The 25-year-old will have a variety of homemade products on her stand at the show, including her fabulous homemade granolas, jams, chutneys, traybakes and Scottish tablet, all made using local ingredients where possible.

Commenting on her place in the YOYP marquee, she said: “I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to have a stand in the marquee at Turriff show, it will be great to showcase my products to the wide variety of customers at the event.”

Singer, Lois Paterson, from Turriff, has had an inspiring journey for any young person wanting to start a career in music. She launched her YouTube channel, LoisPerforms, as well as Instagram and Twitter accounts and uploaded herself singing a cover of an HRVY song, Personal, it was so good, she won a competition that took her to Australia earlier this year.

Jennifer Young, chairman and partner, Ledingham Chalmers, said “Aside from supporting the Turriff Show, which is one of the most important in the Scottish agricultural calendar, we felt sponsoring the YOYP marquee at this year’s event was a great way to showcase some of the hugely impressive young people making an impact not just on the farming sector, but far beyond.”

The firm is inviting those coming along to the show on 5 August to join them for breakfast in the catering marquee between 8.30am to 10.30am. To reserve your space, contact marketing@ledinghamchalmers.com.
