Ledingham Chalmers co-hosts Moray Chamber of Commerce business breakfast with MJD Systems - Thursday 26 October 2017

The extent to which the new Europe-wide GDPR regulation will radically alter businesses’ approach to data protection, with cyber security as an essential part of compliance, will be the focus of an event in Elgin this week.

Ledingham Chalmers Inverness partner Kirk Tudhope will join Moray Chamber of Commerce and MJD Systems, a local IT managed services company, for the breakfast session.

Mr Tudhope’s presentation will set the often complex GDPR terminology in plain English, helping businesses understand what will change when the regime comes into force in next May; how data protection works in practice; the main business risks; as well as the steps organisations can take now to prepare.

This will complement MJD Systems’ director Mark Dunscombe’s discussion on cyber security.

Mr Tudhope said: “Data protection affects every business.

“It governs how we all ought to handle individuals’ personal details including those relating to staff, clients, customers, suppliers and contacts.

“The current duties to protect these details already places significant obligations on us all, but the new GDPR regime will add to the demands we have to meet. It also increases the penalties if we are in breach.

“We all need embrace these changes. Doing nothing will result in unacceptable risks for both ourselves and our businesses.”

The event takes place on Thursday, 26 October, from 8am to 10am, at the Eight Acres Hotel, Elgin. Read more on the Moray Chamber of Commerce website; email the team to book your place; or call Georgia Dunk on 01343 543344.

Tickets for the event are 2-4-1, and cost £15+ VAT for chamber members and £20+ VAT for non-members.

In addition, spaces are still available at Ledingham Chalmers’ Aberdeen GDPR session on 3 November, noon to 2.15pm at the Village Hotel, Prime Four, Kingswells. Book your place online.
