Statement of Intent
The purpose of this statement is to provide information on how Ledingham Chalmers will collect and use the personal data supplied to it whether via the Ledingham Chalmers website or otherwise. Personal data is information which relates to identifiable living individuals. Ledingham Chalmers will act in accordance with current legislation and aims to meet current best practice with regard to the processing of personal data. Ledingham Chalmers is registered as a data controller in the United Kingdom under the Data Protection Act 1998.
Collection of Personal Data
In providing personal data to Ledingham Chalmers an individual is agreeing that Ledingham Chalmers can compile and process such personal data in accordance with this Privacy Policy. For the avoidance of doubt Ledingham Chalmers does not use "cookies" to record information or otherwise analyse users of the Ledingham Chalmers website.
Use of Personal Data
Ledingham Chalmers will use personal data only to assist it to provide legal services and to deliver details of other services which it believes might be of interest to individuals. Ledingham Chalmers can use an individual's personal data for such purposes unless the individual informs Ledngham Chalmers otherwise. Ledingham Chalmers will not sell or otherwise provide personal data to any third party without the individual's consent but may perform some processing of personal data for purposes required by law. For example compliance with the Money Laundering regulations require that in certain circumstances Ledingham Chalmers may disclose information to the approriate authority if we suspect money laundering.
In the course of work for you, Ledingham Chalmers may transfer your personal data to countries which do not provide the same level of data protection as the UK. If we do make such a transfer then we will, prior to such transfer, ensure that a contract has been entered into with the recipient of such information to ensure that your information is adequately protected and your privacy respected.
Ledingham Chalmers assumes that any information that you give us about another individual for business purposes is given to us on the basis that you have the individual's consent and that further she/he has consented to the processing of her/his personal data, including sensitive personal data and to the transfer of her/his information abroad and to you receiving on her/his behalf any data protection notices.
Although it is not our current policy we reserve the right to monitor any communications between you and Ledingham Chalmers in order to ensure that your instructions are followed correctly and to improve our service through training staff.
Storage and Collection of Personal Data
Unless otherwise notified by an individual in writing, Ledingham Chalmers will retain an individual's personal data for as long as Ledingham Chalmers considers it relevant to do so. Ledingham Chalmers is obliged to supply an individual, on request, with a copy of the personal data it holds about you, for which a nominal fee may be charged. This may be obtained by contacting the data controller. Any inaccuracies in such personal information should be notified to Ledingham Chalmers as soon as possible. Ledingham Chalmers will then correct its records and notify any third parties to whom such personal information may have been lawfully transmitted.
